Family-of-Origin Intensive
A Family-of-Origin (FOO) Intensive is a concentrated, highly personalized therapeutic experience designed to help you explore and heal the formative years of your life — the first twenty years, where so much of who you are was shaped. Within a structured, immersive format, you’ll have the space and support to examine the relational dynamics, family systems, and early experiences that continue to influence how you think, feel, and connect today.
This work goes to the root. FOO Intensives help clients identify and begin to heal attachment wounds, family roles and dynamics like enmeshment or parentification, adverse childhood experiences and developmental trauma, and the intergenerational patterns that quietly play out in current relationships. It’s also where we address the faulty core beliefs formed in childhood — “I am not enough,” “I am a burden,” “I cannot trust anyone” — that operate beneath awareness and drive patterns that can feel impossible to change.
Offered as a 3-day experience (with an optional fourth day for those who wish to go deeper), each day includes five hours of focused therapeutic work and a midday break to rest and integrate. No two intensives are alike: your preparation begins the moment you reserve your dates, with individualized prep work and assessments so that we arrive ready to meet you exactly where you are rather than run a standard protocol. Both Dr. Laney Knowlton and Dr. Brian Martin are trained in multiple trauma modalities — including EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, IFS, Psychodrama, and Post-Induction Therapy — woven in organically as clinically appropriate.
All sessions are held in person at our office in Highland Village, Texas, where the depth of this work benefits from genuine relational presence. Post-intensive integration sessions are available for those who wish to continue processing with ongoing support.
